Appointments

Please note that my current main website is https://sandsoundcentre.co.uk and this website is no longer regularly updated, so some of the information here is likely to be out-of-date. Please visit the new website to find out about my therapy and supervision services, courses, events and other offerings.

My therapy practice is based in Glossop, Derbyshire, which is situated in the High Peak, within an easy travelling distance from Manchester, Buxton, Barnsley and Sheffied. I normally see clients in a small consultation room in my home (you can find the location map here) and on some occasions I may also be able to do home or office visits if your circumstances make it difficult for you to travel.

Evening and weekend appointments may be available. If you live too far away or are house-bound, bear in mind that some types of treatment can be successfully carried out over the telephone, online chat or Skype, and I work with many clients all over the UK and internationally using these methods.

If you want to be sure that I am the right therapist for you, I am happy to offer a free telephone consultation of up to 20 minutes to help you make up your mind. You can also read examples of feedback from my previous clients.

How much does it cost?

A session would normally last 1 hour and the initial consultation 1 hour 30 minutes (longer sessions, and half- or full-day intensives may be available by arrangement). My standard fee is £80 per one hour+ session for trauma therapy and Pesso Boyden Therapy for adults, £60 for one hour sandplay session for adults; and £50 for children under 16 (fees for organisations/insurance companies by arrangement, please enquire). During the initial consultation the first half an hour is free, to give us an opportunity to decide whether we would like to work together. I can offer concessions to people who are unwaged or on low income, to war veterans and workers of emergency services who suffered trauma in the course of their duties. There is no minimum number of sessions to commit to – if you would like to discuss your needs please get in touch.

For your peace of mind

To safeguard my clients and to ensure the quality of my practice, I have regular clinical supervision with an experienced UKCP registered supervisor (as well as additional specialist supervisors for different therapy modalities), and undertake extensive continuous professional development.  You may like to check the details of my training and qualifications and read my personal code of ethics, before you decide to make an appointment. I am fully insured to practise and hold a recent Enhanced CRB Dislosure certificate which is available for inspection.

Booking an appointment

To book an appointment or make an enquiry, get in touch through the Contact page on this website, email masha@practicalhappiness.co.uk or telephone  07887 617558 (please leave a message if you get an answerphone – this will be treated in strict confidence). I teach in continental Europe, Asia and Middle East regularly and during those periods may not be able to access the messages on the answerphone, but can usually receive SMS and/or check my emails when abroad.

On the day of your appointment

Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes early as I may be seeing other clients before you and will be unable to see you sooner than the scheduled time. It is important to avoid any mind altering substances (alcohol, drugs) on the day of your appointment – however if you are prescribed psychotropic medication please continue following your doctor’s advice though make sure you inform me of any current prescriptions. Please drink enough water on the day of your appointment – if you are dehydrated some of the therapeutic approaches and techniques that we may use during the session may not work very well.

After the session

Following the session you may feel tired and it is best to build in a rest period if at all possible to help you process the work we have done together. Try not to schedule difficult meetings, interviews or other challenging appointments immediately following your session. Sometimes you may feel drained or more emotional than usual for about two days following the therapy session – this is completely normal. It is helpful if you keep a journal to write down any thoughts, feelings or insights between the appointments – some people also like to draw pictures of their feelings or to express these in creative writing or poetry, and I find that both can be extremely helpful.

I will usually give you some tasks and exercises to practise between the sessions – experience shows that clients who complete these typically progress considerably faster in their therapy.

I look forward to making new discoveries with you!

Best wishes for your journey…
