Pain & Physical issues
What help is available?
Important note: If you are in pain or are experiencing any other physical symptoms, please consult with your doctor before/as well as seeking psychological help.
I teach my clients a range of tools for pain relief, including approaches from Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, Emotional Freedom Techniques, Neurolinguistic Programming and Hypnotherapy. We will practise these during the sessions and you should be able to use some of these techniques for self-help at home. Working through emotional issues may also help alleviate a number of other physical symptoms, such as IBS, skin problems, fatigue, high blood pressure. I am a licensed Hypnotension Practitioner, and can offer a specialised programme for helping make changes in lifestyle and emotional factors contributing to high blood pressure.
In addition to my private practice I am also employed in a Health Psychology Department in Derbyshire NHS where I work with patients with chronic health issues and pain.
Appointments are available at my clinics in Glossop, High Peak (Derbyshire) and in Mossley (Lancashire) - both venues are around 30 minutes drive or a train ride from the centre of Manchester. Online and telephone consultations may be available subject to suitability - please enquire.
Certain foods and spices are known to help alleviate various types of pains and aches naturally, and you can find a useful article listing some of these here.
I can recommend the following colleagues who are highly experienced in working with specific health issues:
- Cancer support - Dr Kate James in N England and Emma Roberts in London
- ME (Chronic Fatigue) - Antoine Bowes in Derbyshire and The Optimum Health Clinic in London
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome - Sian Schofield in Manchester
- Musculo-skeletal conditions - Mark Eastwood in Dukinfield
Below is a very informative short video created by Australian pain specialists that aims to help us understand chronic pain and to make steps to deal with it.
