EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Re-processing) is a therapeutic approach that has been recommended by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) for treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and has also been shown to be effective in relieving other anxiety-related conditions, eating disorders and physical pain.
EMRD has been developed by an American clinical psychologist Dr Francine Shapiro in late 1980s. This therapy appears to directly impact on the brain's information processing function and helps to relieve the intense emotion of traumatic and distressing experiences. EMDR employs eye movements and also sometimes tapping on both sides of body.
I have completed the full three-part accredited EMDR training (including Basic, Intermediate and Advanced), and am currently working towards accrediation with EMDR Association UK & Ireland. I am able to offer reduced cost treatment sessions (subject to suitability) to people on low income, war veterans and workers of emergency services traumatised in the course of their duties. My work is supervised by an experienced EMDR Consultant, as required by the Association.
Appointments are available at my clinics in Glossop, High Peak (Derbyshire) and in Mossley (Lancashire) - both venues are around 30 minutes drive or a train ride from the centre of Manchester - please enquire.
